AngelList에 전체 36개 Genetic Testing startup 들이 등록되어 있고, 숫자가 많지는 않지만, 관련 창업이 점점 늘어나고 있는 추세.
여기서 하나 짚고 넘어갸아할 것이, startup 연도가 실제 창업한 연도가 아니라 AngelList에 등록된 연도라는 점이다. 창업연도와 AngelList 등록 일자는 상관도가 높지만, 다소 차이가 나는 회사들도 존재한다. 하지만, 창업 숫자의 Trends를 파악하기에는 충분하지 않나 생각한다.
Target Markets
지난번 Diagnostics startup 들과 마찬가지로, Genetic testing 회사들 역시 'Bioinformatics', 'Health care information technology', 'big data' , 'SaaS', 'Mobile health' 등과 같이 정보과학 영역에 해당하는 Market tag들이 높은 빈도로 붙어 있는 것을 확인할 수 있다.
'유전자 검사'라는 분야가 genome scale 단위의 분석으로 넘어오면서 Bioinformatics로 대변되는 정보과학에 의해 제품의 디자인, 대용량의 유전자 raw data 저장/분석, 리포팅 까지 담당하게 된 현실을 잘 보여주는 결과라 본다.
